As 2024 comes to a close, it’s the perfect time to look back on a year of standout SEO advancements on Wix Studio. From powerful tools that simplify optimisation to features that enhance search rankings and overall site performance, this year has reinforced Wix Studio’s role as a leading platform for building search-friendly websites.

In this article, we’ll revisit the most impactful SEO updates of 2024, explore how they’ve helped users improve visibility and performance, and share a glimpse at what’s on the horizon for 2025.

Assistant Panels

Assistant Panels help improve a page's SEO by providing a clear, actionable to-do list based on your chosen focus keywords. Previously available only for blogs, they’re now extended to Bookings, Products, Online Programs, and Portfolio pages.

We’ve been using this tool for blogs and appreciated its focused, practical approach. Now, with these updates, some other sections of the site are just as convenient to optimise for SEO—and that’s a big win!

Bulk Alt Text with AI

At the start of 2024, Wix Studio introduced a highly useful feature: Bulk Alt Text powered by AI. This tool simplifies the often time-consuming task of adding descriptive alt text to images, making it available directly in the SEO setup checklist and the SEO Assistant panel for Bookings, Online Programs, and Portfolios.

We believe that in this case, trusting AI is no sin—it’s an incredibly useful tool for improving accessibility and search optimisation. That said, it’s always a good idea to double-check the results to ensure they align with your vision and messaging.

Site Hierarchy

Although released in late 2023, the Site Hierarchy feature has become a crucial SEO tool, especially with its recent expansion across different areas. This feature allows establishing a parent-child relationship between editor pages, ensuring a logical structure for the site's content. Not only does this hierarchy reflect directly in your URLs, but Wix also automatically redirects any outdated URLs based on the updated hierarchy. This ensures that no SEO value is lost, even when changes are made. The Site Hierarchy feature is now available in Classic Editor, Studio, and Edit by Page, making it easier to optimise and maintain the structure of your website for both users and search engines.

New Structure Data Markups

New structured data (SD) markups have been introduced to enhance search engine visibility by providing search engines with a clearer understanding of your website’s content. Structured data is a specific format used to organise and label information on your site, making it easier for search engines to read, interpret, and display relevant results, such as rich snippets.

These updates include Image SD for Bookings, Online Programs, Forums, and Groups, which improve the way these elements are indexed. Additionally, Site Name has been added as structured data on the homepage, boosting brand recognition in search results. Course Carousel SD is now available for online programs, with plans to roll it out for booking courses soon. Forum Discussions and Video SD is being gradually rolled out, with plans to expand across more page types in the future. These enhancements help search engines better categorise and display your content, leading to better visibility and rankings.

Multilingual Sitemap

For users with multilingual websites on Wix Studio, the sitemap now updates automatically whenever you add or remove a language or page. This ensures search engines can effortlessly index your site across all languages, improving your global SEO without extra effort.

SEO Settings and Edit by Page 2.0

Seo Settings Wix Studio

Wix Studio’s SEO settings have become a true 'one-stop shop' for managing and optimising various page types. With the introduction of Edit by Page 2.0, users can now enjoy an interactive table that offers customisable views, in-line editing, a focus keyword column, and AI-powered content generation for titles and meta descriptions.

Bulk editing has been expanded to new areas like Blog Categories, Restaurant Menus, Portfolios, and Bookings, while updates to the Defaults section now include support for Restaurant Menus and Member Author Profiles. Additionally, managing Page URLs has been made easier for Blog Posts, Products, Online Programs, and soon, Bookings. These enhancements ensure that handling SEO across different sections of your site is both efficient and straightforward.

Goodbye AMP

With Google phasing out support for Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP), Wix Studio has followed suit. Sites that previously used AMP now automatically redirect to their regular, mobile-optimised versions. This shift is important for SEO because Google is now prioritising overall page experience, which includes factors like loading speed, mobile responsiveness, and interactivity, rather than AMP-specific pages. The move allows Wix websites to benefit from a more consistent mobile experience, helping to improve user engagement and search rankings without the need for a separate AMP version.

Accessibility

This year, accessibility has been a significant focus for us, largely due to the strides Wix has made in this area. We're thrilled to support these efforts wholeheartedly. Accessibility isn’t just about inclusivity—it intersects with SEO in many ways.

The Accessibility Wizard is now available both in Wix Studio and in standard editor. This powerful tool helps users detect and fix accessibility issues directly from the panel, offering an improved experience and new capabilities:

  • Comprehensive Issue Detection: Identify accessibility issues across every page and breakpoint.

  • Compliance-Based Design: Built on WCAG 2.2 Level AA requirements.

  • Two Tabs for Easy Fixes: Automatically detected issues and manual tasks.

DOM Order Simplified

The DOM order—the sequence of elements in your site's code—has a major impact on accessibility and SEO.

Why does this matter? Correct DOM order ensures:
  • Users of assistive technologies, like screen readers, experience the site in the intended order.

  • Search engines interpret your content effectively.

  • Studio also adds a Monitoring Widget in the Business Manager > Website Overview. This alerts users to any accessibility issues, making ongoing compliance easier than ever.

Accessibility and SEO go hand in hand, and these tools show Wix's commitment to making the web more inclusive. We couldn’t be more excited to share these advancements.

Looking Ahead to 2025

Wix has already teased some exciting SEO updates for the coming year. Here’s what’s been promised so far:

  • Localised Slugs: Greater flexibility for multilingual websites with the ability to set unique slugs for each language version.

  • Redirects Per Language: Support for creating tailored redirects for multilingual sites, ensuring seamless navigation and user experience.

  • AI Assistants for SEO: Smarter, time-saving ways to streamline SEO processes, with deeper integrations into Wix Studio and accessibility tools.

  • Enhanced Multilingual Capabilities: Optimisations that allow sites with multiple languages to deliver better SEO performance on their live pages.

Of course, we’re confident Wix will surprise us with even more innovations in 2025.
